Water Treatment

The Water Treatment Plant provides high quality drinking water for East Point and its customers. Presently we sell water to Ft. McPherson, Hapeville and College Park. The plant has the capacity to produce 17.5 million gallons of water per day. We are limited in how much we can produce because our permit to withdraw water is only 11.2 MGD. The average usage is approximately 10 MDG. The City gets its water from Sweetwater Creek in Douglas County. The water is pumped to the Ben Hill Intermediate Reservoir in Atlanta on Campbellton Road. It is then pumped to storage tanks at the plant on Headland Drive. The water treatment facilities, built in the 1940-50’s, recently underwent a $ 13.8 million dollar renovation which computerized most plant processes, rebuilt concrete basins, and upgraded systems to insure that the drinking water complies with state and federal regulations and will continue to operate for the next fifty (50) years.
